Bob and I went to the AMC-Ontario Mills on Valentine’s Day. There was a line of people waiting to get into the theater. Once inside, there was another very long line along one wall. Men and women, teens and middle-agers stood in plain sight for the next showing of 50 Shades of Grey, showing every half hour throughout the day.
By contrast, the movie we had come to see, Old Fashioned, was only playing at one theater in Ontario and one theater in Riverside. Sadly, each theater had only two showings on Valentine’s Day. The 7 pm appeared to be nearly sold out as couples walked the aisles looking for two seats together.
I thought the movie was charming. The male lead takes a stand for sexual purity and is mocked for it. If you haven’t seen it yet, I’m recommending it. The ending took me completely by surprise. I won’t ruin it by saying any more. When the credits rolled, the audience applauded. What was the last time you heard that at a movie theater?
