In Differences

Last summer Bob went on a mission trip with some men from our church down to Leon, Mexico.  In true Bob fashion, he decided to learn Spanish before he went.  He only had four months, so he ordered Rosetta Stone Spanish I and completed the entire course.  He also read a thick book on the history of Mexico.  When he couldn’t find a map of the city to his liking, he pasted his own together from a map he found on the Internet.

The night before he left, I was helping him pack.  I came across a list that had been given to all of the team members.  “Bob, it says you were supposed to pick up some antibiotics.  Did you?”  “No.”  “How about the international calling card?”  “No.”  “How about the water shoes in case you wind up at a public shower?”  “No.”

Let me ask you a question: Did Bob prepare for the trip?  I would say “yes.”  He just prepared in a very different way than I would have.

It can be frustrating when our spouse doesn’t do the things we think they should do.  Instead of getting frustrated, we need to see how they fill in our gaps and we fill in theirs.  Actually, when Bob and I take a trip together, we are very well equipped!
