In Connecting with Your Partner, Featured, Thoughts from Bob, Time to Make Your Marriage Dance

Too Lazy? Or Too Busy?

It’s so easy to let laziness affect your good habits. You get a work or school assignment and you procrastinate. Before long, you are forced to do a less than stellar job because there is no time left. A weekend opportunity with old friends comes up and you decide not to go to church. Next time, it’s a ballgame to attend. Before you know it, you are missing church a lot. You wanted to do a good job on the assignment. You never made a decision not to attend church. It’s a slow slide, and before you know it, your good habit is gone.

The same thing happens in my marriage. Roxann and I work together on The Marriage Dance. Right now we have a tight schedule to keep. But there was this tennis tournament . . . Playing in tennis tournaments is good for my health. It’s just that it would eat up an entire Saturday. And then I started playing that video game Clash of Clans. It was a good thing. It was a way of connecting with my grandsons. My wife even approved the idea. But, building the village and fighting clan wars took more time than expected. My priorities and wife got pushed down to a lower priority level. I didn’t intend for it to happen that way. It’s just did.

We are a busy society. We’re getting busier. Good habits are hard to maintain. In order to maintain a good habit, you have to make it a high priority.

Take A Moment: Assess Your Marriage.

Is it still as hot as it once was or has it cooled to being lukewarm?
What has eroded your quality time together?
Is your marriage high priority?
What are you willing to give up in order to get it on a better track?

You can have a great marriage but you’ll have to give it time and attention. You’ll have to focus on the things that contribute and eliminate the things that detract. You’ll have to be vigilant to maintain it. Is there something you need to change to get your marriage back to “hot”?
